Huahuan H0FL-EthMux SA1602 E1/T1 over Ethernet Multiplexer

2 E1/T1 Channels over Ethernet

The main purpose of the Huahuan SA1602 is to transport two independent E1/T1 services over an Ethernet connection. Traditional telecom equipment such as PBX systems, PCM devices, BTS equipment and legacy transmission systems often depend on dedicated E1/T1 interfaces. Replacing all of that equipment simply because the transport network has moved to Ethernet can be expensive.

The SA1602 provides an alternative by converting the E1/T1 streams into Ethernet packets for transport through an existing packet network. At the destination, another compatible EthMux device reconstructs the original E1/T1 data stream. This allows organizations to continue using existing TDM equipment while benefiting from modern Ethernet infrastructure.

SAToP TDM over IP Technology

The H0FL-EthMux SA1602 supports SAToP — Structure-Agnostic TDM over Packet technology. SAToP enables traditional constant-bit-rate TDM signals to be carried transparently over packet-switched networks. The SA1602 encapsulates the E1/T1 stream into Ethernet/IP packets before transmission. At the receiving side, the device extracts the TDM information and reconstructs the original signal. This makes the SA1602 suitable for transporting legacy telecom services across:

Ethernet Networks · IP Networks · Metro Ethernet · Fiber Networks · Wireless Bridges · Enterprise Networks · Private Telecom Networks

4× Fast Ethernet Electrical Ports

The SA1602 includes four 100Base-TX electrical Ethernet interfaces. These interfaces are designed for both uplink and local-data applications. The standard configuration provides:

2 Uplink Ethernet Ports + 2 Local Data Ports

One of the local-data ports can also be used for monitoring and management. The electrical Ethernet ports support:

Auto Negotiation · 10Mbps / 100Mbps · Half Duplex · Full Duplex

This provides flexible integration with existing Ethernet switches, routers and network infrastructure.

100Base-FX Fiber Ethernet Interface

In addition to the copper Ethernet interfaces, the SA1602 includes a 100Base-FX optical Ethernet port. The optical interface uses an LC connector and operates at 100Mbps full duplex. This allows the multiplexer to connect directly to compatible fiber Ethernet networks where longer transmission distance, electrical isolation or fiber infrastructure is required. Depending on the deployment, the optical port can be used for uplink or local-data connectivity.

1+1 Ethernet Uplink Protection

Network availability is particularly important when transporting telecom traffic. The SA1602’s two electrical uplink Ethernet ports support 1+1 hitless protection. This helps provide additional resilience when redundant Ethernet paths are available. For applications such as telecom infrastructure, utility networks and enterprise communication systems, redundant connectivity can significantly reduce the risk of service interruption caused by a single uplink failure.

VLAN, QinQ and QoS Support

The SA1602 includes a built-in Layer 2 Ethernet switch with support for advanced traffic-management functions. Supported technologies include:

IEEE 802.1Q VLAN

Allows network administrators to logically separate traffic across the same physical Ethernet infrastructure.

IEEE 802.1ad QinQ

Supports VLAN stacking, which can be particularly useful in carrier and service-provider networks.

QoS

The system supports traffic prioritization based on port, IEEE 802.1P and TOS parameters. Because E1/T1 traffic is highly sensitive to packet delay and jitter, QoS helps prioritize TDM traffic over less time-sensitive local Ethernet data.

Accurate E1/T1 Clock Recovery

Clock synchronization is one of the most important challenges when transporting TDM traffic through packet networks. Unlike conventional E1 transmission, Ethernet networks do not inherently provide the same continuous timing characteristics. The SA1602 incorporates timing-recovery technology to reconstruct the original E1/T1 clock at the receiving side. The device supports multiple timing modes, including:

Local Clock · Adaptive Timing · Loopback Timing

Under stable adaptive-timing conditions, Huahuan specifies output frequency stability of ≤5ppm and output jitter of ≤0.1UI. This makes the device suitable for many timing-sensitive telecom applications.

Packet Delay Variation Protection

Ethernet and IP networks can introduce variations in packet arrival times. This phenomenon is commonly known as Packet Delay Variation or PDV. The H0FL-EthMux SA1602 includes buffering technology designed to absorb packet-delay variation before reconstructing the outgoing E1/T1 signal. The system is also designed to resist packet loss and protect frame synchronization, helping maintain stable legacy services over packet-based networks.

Low Processing Delay

For real-time telecom applications, excessive network latency can affect service quality. The SA1602 provides a specified additional one-way processing delay of:

≤10ms

When configured for minimum processing delay in point-to-point applications. This helps make the unit suitable for latency-sensitive voice, PBX, mobile backhaul and telecom-service applications.

Web-Based Network Management

The Huahuan SA1602 supports Web Server-based network management, enabling administrators to monitor and configure the device remotely through a browser. Available monitoring and management functions include areas such as:

E1 Channel Status · Ethernet Port Status · Alarm Monitoring · VLAN Configuration · Ethernet Management · E1 Management · System Configuration

This makes administration easier compared with unmanaged protocol converters.

SNMP V2 Management

For larger network deployments, the SA1602 also supports SNMP V2.

SNMP support allows the device to integrate into centralized network-monitoring and management environments.

This is useful for:

Telecom Operators · ISPs · Enterprise Networks · Utility Networks · Government Infrastructure · Managed Communication Networks

The device also supports remote software and hardware upgrades along with network-time configuration through SNTP.

Flexible E1/T1 Interface Options

The SA1602 supports standard balanced telecom interfaces:

E1 — 120Ω

T1 — 100Ω

A 75Ω unbalanced E1 configuration can also be implemented using the appropriate DIP settings and connection cable.

This flexibility makes the unit compatible with a wider range of legacy telecom equipment and regional installation standards.

AC and DC Power Options

The H0FL-EthMux SA1602 is available with different power configurations suitable for telecom and enterprise installations.

Supported options include:

AC: 100–240V, 50/60Hz

DC: -36V to -72V

Maximum power consumption is specified at approximately 7.7W or less, making the device suitable for continuously operated network installations.

Compact Design for Telecom Installations

The SA1602 measures approximately:

195 × 35 × 140mm

Its compact chassis makes it suitable for desktop, telecom cabinet and equipment-room installations where space may be limited. Despite its small size, the unit combines E1/T1 conversion, Ethernet switching, fiber connectivity, QoS, VLAN, redundancy and network-management capabilities in one device.
